Inori and the Birds (Japanese: いのりと小鳥 Inori to Kotori) is the first Short Program chapter of the Medalist manga.

Story[]

A 7-year-old Inori sits in front of the reception desk at the Ohsu rink. The old receptionist, Sekoma, tries to tell her that she can't go in without paying, and questions why she doesn't ask her mom. Inori explains that her mother wants her to stop obsessing over skating and wonders if it's already too late for her to start, but admits she still loves skating too much to give up.

Sekoma shows Inori a photo of some birds he cares for, offering to let her enter the rink for free if she brings him worms for the birds. He even enters the rink himself to teach Inori the basics of skating. Over time, Inori brings Sekoma increasingly excessive amounts of worms. Though Sekoma fears being discovered, he is now in too deep and cherishes Inori way too much.
