Night of the First Battle (Japanese: 初戦の夜 Shosen no Yoru) is the third Short Program chapter of the Medalist manga.

Standing outside the rink, Tsukasa and Inori both try to speak at the same time before politely insisting that the other go first, creating a stalemate that has to be broken with rock-paper-scissors.
Inori tells Tsukasa that she wants to enter a Level 1 tournament before the end of summer, after passing her next Badge Test. She explains that she intends to compete frequently to retain the feeling of "I can't stay this way," pushing her to improve and become a "real figure skater." Tsukasa immediately agrees and enters her into an upcoming competition in Kyoto as a Level 1. However, he also assures Inori that she is already a full on athlete, and that she should take pride in that fact.
When it's Tsukasa's turn to speak, he tells Inori that a celebration for her victory is in order. So, they enthusiastically begin celebrating, until Mika and Nozomi eventually arrive to pick Inori up.
