Jun Yodaka (Japanese: 夜鷹 純 Yodaka Jun) is the coach of Hikaru Kamisaki. He took Hikaru in as his skating disciple from a far away snowy land, but left the task of caring for her other needs to the Sonidori family.
Appearance[]
Jun is a tall man with medium-length black hair and greenish-gold eyes, and is described to have a youthful appearance for his age. He is consistently dressed in all-black attire, whether he's on the ice or off.
Personality[]
Jun is a proud individual with an unmatched obssession for figure skating, but possesses few notable qualities beyond that. He is highly unsocial and comes off as cold an uninviting. He often exhibits several childish traits he has never outgrown, such as picky eating, a short temper, and a habit of breaking expensive things when irritated. His lack of practical skills doesn't hinder him much, as he's grown accustomed to others managing responsibilities on his behalf.[2]
Jun employs an unique coaching method of demonstrating jumps and routines and asking Hikaru to reproduce them exactly as shown, with no detailed instruction or warm encouragement involved. This only works because both Jun and Hikaru are prodigies.[3]
He hates being looked down upon by others, so he takes considerable care with his appearance. He takes his clothing particularly seriously and pays professionals to fully coordinate his outfits.[2]

Trivia[]
- Being a picky eater, combined with strict dietary restrictions during his competitive years, led Jun to have little interest in food. After retiring, he tried to explore various foods, but in the end, the only thing that stuck was smoking. He smokes not only as a sign of having accepted figure skating behind but also with a somewhat self-destructive intent to ensure he cannot return to competition. Yet, he remains relatively healthy.[2]
- According to the fanbook, Shinichiro Sonidori is the only contact that Jun has saved on his phone.[2] However, Episode 2 of the anime adaptation contradicts this, as Hikaru's name is briefly shown on his phone when he receives her call.
- Jun has a small face and has to use a child-sized mask.[4]
Etymology[]
- The surname "Yodaka" (夜鷹) means "nightjar," an animal reference.
- The given name "Jun" (純) means "pure"/"genuine."
Notes[]
- ↑ According to Short Program 8, Jun is the same age as Shinichiro Sonidori.
