Suzaku Hiyodori (Japanese: 鵯 朱蒴 Hiyodori Suzaku) is a figure skating athlete from Starfox FSC chosen as one of the representatives for Team Japan during the Junior Grand Prix.

Personality

Suzaku is usually shy to approach others and tends to keep to himself. However, if someone approaches him first with goodwill, Suzaku will open up immediately, talking endlessly and sometimes losing his sense of distance.

Story

Suzaku first appears at a training camp in Osaka held by the federation.

First interaction with Inori

Later, he travels to Thailand along with her coach Reilly Foxx to compete in Event 1 of the Junior Grand Prix which he is assigned to. They arrive at a mall where the competition venue is located, but Suzaku is immediately nauseated by the smell of Thai food from the food court. Seeing this, a fellow skater, Inori Yuitsuka, offers him some candy. Suzaku is instantly charmed by her and thanks her fervently, but a possessive Iruka quickly grows dissatisifed and shoos him off.

Suzaku offers to dance with Inori

After the event, the skaters and coaches gather for dinner at a night market. They watch as a singer perform, but Inori is put in a difficult spot when the singer drags her on stage to dance. Seizing the opportunity, Suzaku comes on stage and flirtatious offers to dance with her, but Iruka once again forcefully separates them by dragging Inori away, prompting Suzaku to freestyle a diss track directed at her.

Later, Suzaku and Inori are alone in a laundry room. Suzaku praises his club and invites Inori to also join Starfox FSC. Inori hesitates because Starfox is all the way in Tokyo, but Suzaku asserts that athletes serious about their career move all the time. Inori, however, explains that she has been taught to make major decisions only when she is completely sure they are right, so she cannot decide just yet.

Unexpectedly, it is the generational prodigy Hikaru Kamisaki who ends up transferring to Starfox instead. Suzaku, being the oldest member, offers to help Hikaru with any trouble, but loses all confidence when she realizes she is taller than him.

• In the magazine release, Suzaku's given name was written as 朱雀. This was later updated to 朱蒴 in the tankobon release.

Etymology

• The surname "Hiyodori" (鵯) means "brown-eared bulbul," an animal reference.
• The given name "Suzaku" consists of the kanji 朱 ("vermilion") and 蒴 ("seedpod").
• The reading of the name contains suzaku (朱雀, "vermillion bird"), a second animal reference.
